Following its acclaimed premiere at SXSW, where HoodTrophy Bino was featured as an official showcase artist, the powerful documentary “HoodTrophy Bino: Breaking the Generational Curse” has been awarded the Best Music Documentary or Short Film About Music at the International Music Video Underground Awards. The documentary has also been officially selected for five additional prestigious film festivals.
The documentary will make its Canadian debut at The International Black Diversity Film Festival in Toronto, Ontario, on May 31st. It will then travel to the Tylerman International Social Awareness Film Festival in Wheaton, Illinois, on August 10th, followed by a screening at the Black Indie Filmmakers Association Film Festival in Houston, Texas, on October 3rd. Additionally, the film will be available for online viewing at the Documentaries Without Borders Film Festival and the California International Short Film Festival.
Directed by the talented GEBAR, “HoodTrophy Bino: Breaking the Generational Curse” offers an intimate look into the life story of acclaimed rapper HoodTrophy Bino and his journey growing up in the South Central LA projects. The documentary explores the artist’s determination to break free from the cycle of generational curses and overcome the challenges faced in his environment.
GEBAR, whose full name is Gebar Gebremiche, is a Eritrean-born, San Francisco State University-educated filmmaker known for his unique storytelling approach. After establishing his own production company, Ordinary Visions, in 2016, GEBAR has collaborated with a diverse array of artists, including Blueface, Drakeo The Ruler, Fenix Flexin, Rucci, and EBK Young Joc, among others. His impressive portfolio includes two acclaimed short narrative films, “BELES” (2017) and “HARESTAY” (2021), as well as an extensive library of music videos.
